Blood Test Instructions

Acute Blood Tests

Your doctor has asked for this test to help understand your symptoms and check for possible health problems. Blood tests can be important in ruling out serious conditions, including cancer, as well as identifying many other treatable causes. Having the test done promptly helps ensure any problems are detected early and managed appropriately

Routine Blood Tests

Regular blood tests help us safely manage your long-term condition and make sure your medication continues to be right for you. Keeping these tests up to date supports your ongoing health—please arrange your routine blood test if it’s due.

Fasting Blood Tests

If your test is a fasting test (e.g. lipids-cholesterol, blood sugar) you must not eat or drink anything for 12 hours, (do not fast over 14 hours) before the blood test. Only water is allowed but you should take your usual medication.
