Changes to cervical smear recalls from 1st July 2025

Posted by: laurawills - Posted on:

From July 2025, anyone who has their cervical screening (smear test) on or after 1 July 2025 and tests negative for HPV will move to 5 yearly screening unless previous screening history suggests they should be screened more regularly.  This means that patients aged 25-49 who are negative HPV after 1 July will be recalled every 5 years instead of every 3 years.

Invitations will also be sent via the NHS App so please look out for those messages.  Smear appointments are available to book by contacting our Reception Team.  You may also receive a text message where you can book a smear test directly if you are overdue.

Women who have a normal cervical smear result will now be sent their result via the NHS App. If you haven’t already, you can download the app using the links below. Don’t worry though, if you do not have the app or if you have an abnormal result, you will still receive a letter in the post.

Please note that smears cannot be taken earlier than your scheduled recall. If you have a health concern, please arrange an appointment with a GP.

A new leaflet is now available which provides information about cervical screening – NEW – Your Guide to NHS Cervical Screening Information Leaflet
